چکیده

Abstract The study reports direct numerical simulations of a turbulent jet impinging onto smooth and rough surfaces at Reynolds number Re = 10,000 (based on the mean bulk velocity diameter). Surface roughness is included in using an immersed boundary method. deflection flow after impingement generates radial wall-jet that develops parallel to plate surface. structured into inner outer layer that, limit infinite local number, resemble free-shear flow. investigation assesses self-similar character stresses profiles scaled by units for varying size topography. Namely usual viscous $$u_\tau$$ u τ $$\delta _\nu$$ δ ν are used as scales, while maximum $$u_m$$ m its wall-normal location $$z_m$$ z scales. It shown self-similarity marginally affected span topographies investigated, length reference scales do not show significantly modified behavior when surface considered. On other hand, considerable scatter, sub-layer determined considered extends up wall-jet. Nevertheless, similar appears be conserved despite profound impact roughness.

Prediction of turbulent heat transfer in impinging jet geometries

This chapter summarizes the current knowledge on the numerical prediction of turbulent impinging jet flows. The predictive capabilities of numerical models are evaluated by careful comparison with experimental fluid flow and heat transfer data. Turbulent fluctuations in the velocity field are mathematically modelled using the Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) methodology. Turbulence is ass...

Database of Near-Wall Turbulent Flow Properties of a Jet Impinging on a Solid Surface under Different Inclination Angles

In the present paper, direct numerical simulation (DNS) and particle image velocimetry (PIV) have been applied complementarily in order to generate a database of near-wall turbulence properties of a highly turbulent jet impinging on a solid surface under different inclination angles. Thereby, the main focus is placed on an impingement angle of 45◦, since it represents a good generic benchmark t...

Heat Transfer of an Impinging Jet on a Plane Surface

Abstract—A cold, thin film of liquid impinging on an isothermal hot, horizontal surface has been investigated. An approximate solution for the velocity and temperature distributions in the flow along the horizontal surface is developed, which exploits the hydrodynamic similarity solution for thin film flow. The approximate solution may provide a valuable basis for assessing flow and heat transf...
